Hey there! I am Mahimna and I want to do everything.
I love learning about every aspect of technology (software, hardware and electronics) from the fundamentals up. For me, it is imperative to understand why and how something works rather than just that it works. I have gained a significant amount of knowledge in these fields through my courses in Mechatronics engineering, my internships and my research assistantships. I still have a very long way to go.
Along with engineering, I am very interested in political science, sociology, education, healthcare and economics. I see a lot of issues in these fields and have my thoughts on how to fix them. Some of these thoughts can be seen through my personal projects and internships. Others you might have to wait a year or two for.
Outside of academics, I am currently involved in my university's organization for Indian students (UWIC). Here, I have held the position of VP of tech before which involved leading a team in the continuation and expansion of UWIC's digital outreach. I have also been a repetitive and active participant of the many cultural dance performances. Combining this with my passion for Bollywood Dubsmashses often leaves me considering getting on a one-way flight to Mumbai.
In whatever free time I have left, I enjoy travelling, biking, taking pretty pictures, (at least attempting) adventure sports, cooking Gujarati food, and coming up with witty captions.
Please feel free to contact me if you want to talk about anything and everything from the latest technology to the next big product to new economic systems to your favourite dish.

Apple Inc.
Camera Engineering Intern
- Programmed a multi-threaded application in Python to communicate with a spectroradiometer over serial
- Made an IoT display using Arduino Yun to show LUX values
- CADed an enclosure for the above display in AutoCAD and got it built
- Conducted a study for NEQ image quality quantification and did analysis using MATLAB
- Assembled a collimator set up with key emphasis on optimization and calibration
- Designed, assembled and programmed an electromechanical rig for camera testing
Remind
Software Engineering Intern
- Proficient employee handling a third of all the work related to Remind's Android application including its UI design, making network calls to the backend, and saving data locally
- Made changes to the Ruby backend and worked on a GO client to batch HTTP requests
Vision and Image Processing Lab
Undergraduate Research Assistant
- Implemented imaging algorithms such as box blur, denoising, and segmentation using a graph based approach in GraphChi (C++)
Pivotal Labs
Agile Engineering Intern
- Programmed the middleware for a large enterprise mobile application in the .NET framework using C# and SQL Server
- Ported a server for iBeacons employee tracking application from Ruby on Rails to Spring Boot with MongoDB
- Implemented a trilateration algorithm to determine a person's indoor location from iBeacons strength values
- Made an Android app that pushed notifications to colleagues' phones using GCM services and a MongoDB/Sprint Boot server
- Made a Today Extension widget on iOS to fill out timesheets
Princess Margaret Hospital
Software Developer and Research Intern
- Programmed automatic sequences on the Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator using the Developer Mode feature via XML scripts
- Created a GUI in MATLAB to help facilitate the process of writing the scripts
- Implemented imaging algorithms such as Sobel edge detection and Circle Hough Transform to extract features from the images acquired from the accelerator

Sher
Android, C#, ASP.NET Web API
A mobile application to tackle power abuse in the law enforcement system. It lets users report their incidents with police officers and rate them as well.

Ultrasonic Distance Measurement Device
Arduino (SD Library, Liquid Crystal Library, EEPROM Library)
A measurement device built around the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic sensor. The sensor measures the time it takes for the ultrasound wave to bounce and come back and calibrates it to a distance value using linear regression.

JavaScript, Processing.js
A simple visualization that shows the impact of the initial velocity and angle in projectile motion.

OCR Digit Reader
Java, MATLAB, Neural Networks
A digit classifier that uses a trained neural network to classify numbers. It was trained using the MNIST database.

Da Vinci Printer
Robot C, MATLAB, Mechanical Design with SolidWorks
A dot printer and scanner made on the Lego NXT Robot C platform. It consisted of an image processing task which converted images into binary files which the printer than used to make dots.
Made By: Helen Cho, Dhruv Datta, Mahimna Dave, Jeremy Wong
Frictionless Tachometer
NI Multisim, IC Circuitry
A tachometer that can measure the rpm of a motor without any physical contact. It works with a LED-phototransistor pair and IC circuitry that counts the number of pulses from the pair.
